We hope you are enjoying living in Paradise where you can grow gardens all year round!
Food sustainability and agriculture are very important to us especially while living on an island in the middle of the Pacific.
We are happy to announce our next Tropical Gardening Class will be 7/18 Saturday at 9-11:30am in the HPP Activity Center Pavilion.
The Activity Center is at 15-1570 Makuu Dr. between 17th and 16th Ave. Go down the driveway past the HPPOA Office.
We are honored to have as our Instructor Bill Miller! Bill is the past President of the UH Master Gardeners and life long Horticulturalists and Nurserymen in Hawaii.
Main Topics will be:
How to grow and what grows well in Hawaii, good and bad Insects, plant diseases, growing from cuttings, transplanting, and answering your individual gardening questions.
They will be giving away many plants: Coleus, Ti, Jackfruit, Surinam cherry, Brazilian Cherry, cotton, Kukui, Culantro, Malabar Spinach, pineapple tops, Orchid tree seeds, Hibiscus cuttings, Cacao trees, and ornamental plants.
We’d appreciate everyone bringing 2 cleaned pots.
If you’d like to bring cuttings, make sure to cut them Saturday, 2′ long, and keep the ends in a damp paper towel or in a bucket of water.
** Bring a photo or sample of your mystery plant, leaf, or bug in a ziplock to be identified.
I will bring small bottles of Milestone to treat nonhazardous Albizias.
Please let me know what size you need before Saturday. .
The Tropical Gardening Class is FREE, but we would appreciate donations to cover the cost of soil, cuttings, pots, and plants.
